CHESHIRE - A string of burglaries in residential and commercial neighborhoods in town has police asking for the public's help and cautioning residents to keep their homes locked and secure.

The town has experienced a large number of burglaries over the past couple months including five home burglaries along the south side of town near the Hamden line, four which occurred during a weekend according to police. Six other commercial burglaries have also taken place.

Police have arrested one in connection with two burglaries on the north side of town known as the industrial park area but said recent burglaries do not appear related.

Officers said the burglars have targeted homes where doors or windows have been left unsecure and are generally leaving with electronic items including televisions and computers, jewelry and any cash left around.

Police said Tuesday morning that detectives are asking for anyone who may have information regarding the burglaries to contact the department. Detectives are also asking people to report any suspicious vehicles or persons and reminding residents to also lock their cars.

To contact the department, call the main number at (203) 271-5500 or the Cheshire detective division at (203) 271-5530.
