EAST HAVEN - The Sheehan football team is known for their powerful offense, but on Friday night at East Haven High School, the Titans defense took center stage in a 63-21 SCC Division II East victory.

The Sheehan defense totaled four interceptions -- three were returned for touchdowns -- to overcome a second-quarter 14-12 deficit.

Sheehan running back/defensive back Zach Prefontaine excelled on both sides of the ball, totaling four touchdowns. Two were on runs from 46 and 9 yards. He also pulled in an 18-yard TD reception from Sheehan signal caller Brett Biestek in the second quarter.

Prefontaine put the icing on the cake with a 45-yard interception return in the third quarter, just after his second TD run.

Biestek had a strong first half, completing 6-of-11 passes for 120 yards and two TD passes. John Songer reined in the other Biestek pass from 14 yards in the first quarter. Biestek also added a 12-yard TD run in the second quarter that made the score 36-14 at the half.

Matt Vignola (32 yards) and Jesse Sarno (44 yards) also added interception returns for touchdowns. Cassius Snipes had a pick in the fourth quarter, but did not score.

Billy Gannon added a TD pass in the fourth off the bench for Sheehan (3-1, 1-0) connecting Brian Murphy for eight yards with 1:40 to go in the game.

East Haven (0-4, 0-2) scored on a two TD passes to Mike Dinicola and a 3-yard touchdown run by Talvarr Pierce.
