Crossing guards take on summer jobs

MERIDEN - Throughout most of the year, Miriam Rodriguez works as a crossing guard at Roger Sherman School. But when school lets out for the summer, Rodriguez is essentially laid off by the city.
Instead of collecting unemployment compensation this summer, Rodriguez is working for the city in a new capacity in the Management Information Systems Department at City Hall. She will be doing some clerical tasks.
